Accept an order only when you are sure you can produce and deliver it while meeting all requirements, expectations, laws and obligations.

It is genuinely difficult for me to explain this part of the series.

The title is sufficiently clear and self-explanatory. The problem is that small and large businesses violate this principle so easily and frequently that the opposite seems to have become established.

In other words: "Accept the order now; we will figure something out!"

This attitude has become so entrenched that a negative expression has turned into a positive one over the years: "wounding the job," or starting it before being ready.

Years ago, "wounding the job" had negative connotations. Today, you hear it as a normal expression in most businesses.

But if you start the job without being ready and then cannot:

Deliver the work on time, what then?
What if you have misunderstood some of the customer's requirements?
What if you quoted a price without carefully reviewing the requirements and obligations?
What if you cannot meet some of the requirements?
And many more such "what ifs."

You can guess what might happen after these "what ifs." I do not think any of those outcomes would be pleasant.

Please take the time and patiently prepare an order-acceptance checklist for your business, similar to the checklist pilots use before a flight.

For every order, complete and review the checklist to make sure nothing has been missed.

Do not rely too much on leaving something ambiguous and saying nothing about it until you see what happens later. Experience shows that, in most cases, these matters become crises and problems.
