Change Is a Sign of Life! After Every Change, Check Its Effects and Readjust Your Business.

Businesses and their surroundings are continually changing.

Part of the work of people in business is to examine these changes and, when necessary, keep pace with them.

External changes in laws, politics, society, culture, the economy, technology, innovation, markets, competitors and so on, together with internal business strengths and weaknesses, signal that you need to make changes so that you do not fall behind competitors or the market and get pushed aside.

Unless their purchasing options are restricted, customers will ruthlessly abandon one product and use its competitor instead.

There is no courtesy involved. Customers do not promise to buy from you for life. As soon as they receive a better offer, they may say goodbye to your business.

What can be done?

A business must continually analyze and review events, internal and external changes and its customers' requirements, then make the corresponding changes to its products, services and working processes.

Where is the concern?

The concern is that changes may not be considered comprehensively and coherently across the business, creating problems.

Example: Workshop A makes kitchen cabinets. It has recently bought an automatic machine that, according to the seller, produces kitchen cabinets at twice the quality and half the previous cost.

So far, everything looks good.

Several old cabinet-making machines and processes have been replaced by one new automatic machine. Your business has therefore kept pace with technological development and updated itself.

But what consequences might this change and update have?

A- The new machine needs computer programming, so either the existing operator must be trained or a new person hired.

B- The new machine needs a larger workshop area. Unless suitable operating space is provided, problems will arise.

C- The new machine needs more regular and complex servicing and maintenance than the previous simple machines because it has more mechanical and electronic components.

D- And so on...

Every change, even a beneficial and positive one, has consequences for which the necessary provisions must be made.
